THE JUDAS PAIR is the first of the Lovejoy mystery novels. There is a BBC television series based upon the Lovejoy novels and an episode of the same name, but the book is by far a superior tale to the simplified and entertaining version of the story that was televised.

After reading the novel I could well understand why it was an award winner/5(91). The Judas Pair by Jonathan Gash is the first book in the Lovejoy mystery series and my first attempt at reading them as well. I had enjoyed the British TV series featuring Ian McShane as antique dealer, Lovejoy.

McShane played Lovejoy as a bit of a rogue and having read the story now, I The Judas pair. book he probably portrayed him reasonably accurately/5.

Lovejoy puts his (and Lady Jane's) life on the line to find the pistols and uncover a murderer. The Judas Pair is a solid. The Gospel of Judas is a Gnostic gospel. The content consists of conversations between Jesus and Judas Iscariot.

Given that it includes late 2nd century theology, it is thought to have been composed in the 2nd century by Gnostic Christians, rather than the historic Judas himself.

After reading the novel I could well understand why it was an award winner/5(88). What other book might you compare The Judas Pair to, and why. The Lovejoy series can't exactly be compared to anything else, they have such a distinct identity and style. Which scene did you most enjoy.

The ending, though a little tricksy on the first listen as it all happens quickly, is wonderfully set up and a great resolution to the book. The very first book in the classic Lovejoy series which won the CWA John Creasey Dagger Award for best debut novel.

Every antique dealer is a bit of a detective, following clues to find the trophies that pay the rent, but when Lovejoy takes on the job of tracking down a pair of duelling pistols so rare that he's not even sure actually exist, he needs all the instincts of a detective to pick.

by Jack O'Connell The Resurrectionist is a wild ride into a territory where nothing is as it appears. Part classic noir thriller, part fabulist fable, it is the story of Sweeney and his comatose son, Danny. The first four Lovejoy novels. My favorite is the first, The Judas Pair, but the other stories were quite enjoyable as well. Lovejoy is a cad. He doesn't treat his women all that well, he's hit several of them, yet they still keep coming back to him/5.

The Judas Pair. First published inthis was the title that started it all, spawning over twenty-four sequels in its wake prior to it being originally being published. Initially brought out through the Harper and Row Publisher’s label, this really set the template for now iconic and much beloved character of Lovejoy.

Attempting to do for English antiques what Dick Francis has done for English thoroughbreds, Gash puts narrator-hero-dealer Lovejoy (so virile he has no first name) on the trail of the Judas Pair, a legendary set of 18th-century flintlock dueling pistols: a dealer who claimed to have acquired them is found bored through the forehead (but no sign of a bullet), and his brother wants the guns and the assassin located.

The Judas Pair is an excellent murder mystery. Think Dan Brown, but your narrator has a personality. There are parts, particularly early on, where Lovejoy proves to be somewhat of a domestic abuse case, which makes for very uneasy reading.
